Adobe has recently launched its Photoshop (beta), featuring the advanced Generative Fill with Reference Image. The update was unveiled last week at Adobe MAX London.

In a press release from Adobe, the company stated that the new Photoshop (beta) is powered by Adobe Firefly Image 3 Foundation Model. This ushers in a new era for the image editing platform as its generative AI is now more tightly integrated into creator workflows.

The press release further disclosed that the new release became available in the Photoshop desktop (beta) app with its unveiling on April 23. It will be generally rolled out later this year.

According to Adobe, the update includes features such as Reference Image, Text to Image with Generate Image, Generate Background, Generate Similar, and Enhance Detail. Other enhancements range from the Adjustment Brush and Adjustment Presets to an Improved Font Browser.

Ashley Still, senior vice president of Adobe’s Creative Product Group, said in the press release: "This massive new update to Photoshop takes creativity to unprecedented levels—whether you are a professional or brand new to Photoshop. Through new Firefly-powered features in Photoshop, we are bringing ideation and creation closer together and making editing images both more powerful and approachable so everyone can realize their creative vision."

Adobe also noted that with the Firefly Image 3 Model, the new Photoshop can generate more realistic imagery using Generative Fill and Generative Expand tools. Firefly has produced over 7 billion images for users so far and was trained with Adobe-licensed content. Therefore, users do not risk infringing on copyrights or other intellectual property.
