FOX CITIES CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: Fox Valley Workforce Development Board Offering Free Apprenticeship Training at Fox Valley Technical College
Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Aug. 14.
As part of its commitment to training people for the jobs our region needs to fill, the Fox Valley Workforce Development Board (FVWDB) is offering the opportunity to train up to 10 individuals -- absolutely free -- to become a Certified Pre-Apprentice.
The FVWDB, based in Neenah, and serving the counties of Calumet, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Waupaca, Waushara and Winnebago, has received a grant to launch a cohort training program which will certify 10 individuals to become Industrial Manufacturing Technician Certified Pre-Apprentices. The program has been developed in coordination with the FVWDB, DWD Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards, Fox Valley Technical College, and several local companies.
The program includes four weeks of targeted training at Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton during the month of September and successful trainees will be offered interviews with local partner companies in Brillion, Neenah, and Oshkosh.
“Apprenticeships are a great career opportunity and this training will open doors to employment with local companies that also support higher level Registered Apprenticeship (RA) training,” said Bobbi Miller, Manager of Business Solutions. “The RA model is a wonderful option for someone looking to advance a career. RA programs offer on-the-job training supported by company paid training when an apprentice is attending class at a local technical college. Successful apprentices are awarded journey-worker status which is an industry recognized credential. But truly, both employees and employers benefit from apprenticeship since employers have access to these workers throughout the training.”
Although a job offer is not guaranteed, those who complete this four-week training to will be able to interview with three strong local companies that are partnering on this project. Entry rates of pay for these jobs will be $13-16 per hour and companies also offer benefits and career advancement opportunities. Applications are being accepted until August 23, 2019, from anyone age 18 and over. For those who qualify, additional support grants may be available for mileage reimbursement and childcare.
For more information and a free application, call or text Bobbi Miller at 920-470-0837, or email email@example.com. You can also stop by your local American Job Center.
