Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on May 28.
Heather Schimmers, MBA, FABC, BSN, RN, Vice President of Patient Care Services, Ascension NE Wisconsin – St. Elizabeth Campus, has been named Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for Ascension Wisconsin, effective July 1, 2019. Heather will lead more than 6,000 nursing professionals at 24 hospital campuses and more than 100 clinics across the state. Recognizing the important roles of nurses, CNOs across Ascension will work closely with chief clinical officers and chief operating officers as part of a new leadership model.
“Heather is an exceptional nursing leader who has already demonstrated her keen ability to build a culture of caring, engagement, high performance and participatory decision-making at Ascension St. Elizabeth,” said Ann Hendrich, PhD, RN, FAAN, Sr. Vice President, Chief Quality/Safety/PSO and Nursing Officer, Ascension. “We are very fortunate to have her as the new Wisconsin Chief Nursing Officer to further unite the local talent and ministry leadership for future care delivery and transformation.”
In her new role, Heather will provide a nursing viewpoint to advance delivery care models across the state, and develop strategies that will impact associate engagement, quality metrics, positive outcomes and fiscal responsibility. She will collaborate with system executives to further systemwide development of the delivery of quality, affordable, person-centered care.
“I am delighted that Heather has accepted the CNO position and am confident she will inspire our nurses across Ascension Wisconsin,” said Bernie Sherry, Ministry Market Executive, Ascension Wisconsin. “This role is critical to the success of our organization and delivers on our promise of compassionate, personalized care across the state.”
Heather currently serves as the Chair of the Ascension Wisconsin Nursing Executive Committee. Prior to her current role at Ascension St. Elizabeth, she was the Director of Nursing at Ascension NE Wisconsin – Mercy Campus in Oshkosh. In addition, she has led many of the clinical units throughout Northeast Wisconsin.
Heather earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in business administration from Kaplan University. Along with a long list of honors and achievements, she also earned the title of Fellow with the Advisory Board for successful completion of an executive leadership fellowship program in Washington, D.C.
