Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Feb. 4.
The Wisconsin Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Association (WSHA) announces Dr. Stephanie Long, an Audiologist at Fox Valley Hearing Center (Formally About Better Care Audiology) as the 2019 Wisconsin recipient for the Louis DiCarlo Clinical Achievement Award Winner. DiCarlo Clinical Achievement Award recognizes professionals who have worked toward advancing knowledge in clinical practice through a significant accomplishment in audiology and/or speech-language pathology.
Dr. Stephanie Long is receiving this award in recognition for establishing Hear in the Fox Cities, a non-profit with a mission to assist lower income families in the Fox Cities with obtaining hearing aids for children. The organization works with local hearing care professionals and families to ensure children in the community have access to hearing aids. The funds raised provide hearing aids to youth and children in the Fox Cities who do not quality for other funding sources.
Dr. Stephanie long is a local audiologist from Appleton WI. She currently works at Fox Valley Hearing Center, formally About Better Care Audiology. She was inspired and motivated to form a non-profit organization for children across the Fox Cities after helping a 10-year-old boy obtain hearing aids whose family was otherwise not able to provide them. With her help, Hear in the Fox Cities was launched the end of 2017 and has raised enough funds to provide amplification to 7 children last year.
“It’s heartbreaking when families are trying to do their best to help their children and financials are in the way. We know time is of the essence when fitting children with hearing aids because every hour matters for development. It’s really rewarding every time Hear in the Fox Cities can assist a family in helping their child to hear.” – Dr. Stephanie Long
Dr. Stephanie Long will be honored at the WSHA Annual Convention President’s Reception and Awards Ceremony on Friday, February 15th in Green Bay, WI. She will also be considered as a finalist for the 2019 Louis DiCarlo Clinical Achievement Award - chosen from each year’s group of State Clinical Achievement Award recipients. The National winner will be announced at the annual ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association) Convention this November in Boston, MA.
