About 13 percent of the 10,581 degrees and certificates handed out by the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2016-17 were to students in Engineering programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The agency's National Center for Education Statistics shows the public institution in Madison conferred 922 bachelor's degrees and 299 master's degrees in Engineering programs.

But the single most popular program was for a bachelor's degree in Biology/Biological Sciences, General. Data shows the school gave out 451 bachelor's degrees in Biology/Biological Sciences, General, followed by 345 bachelor's degrees in Economics, General and 251 bachelor's degrees in Psychology, General.

The university enrolled 42,582 students for 2016-17, including 30,958 in undergraduate programs and 11,624 in graduate programs.
