About 29.8 percent of the 1,606 degrees and certificates handed out by the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 2016-17 were to students in Engineering programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The agency's National Center for Education Statistics shows the public institution in Platteville conferred 420 bachelor's degrees and 59 master's degrees in Engineering programs.

But the single most popular program was for a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Data shows the school gave out 179 bachelor's degrees in Mechanical Engineering, followed by 138 bachelor's degrees in Business Administration and Management, General and 113 bachelor's degrees in Criminal Justice/Safety Studies.

The university enrolled 8,779 students for 2016-17, including 7,861 in undergraduate programs and 918 in graduate programs.
